Japanese cryptocurrency exchange Coincheck is on the verge of a momentous occasion as it prepares to debut on Nasdaq following its merger with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC).

The company's decision is in line with Coincheck's strategy to expand into the global market outside of Japan. To accomplish this, Coincheck will merge with Nasdaq-listed Thunder Bridge Capital Partners IV, Inc.

As a result of the IPO, Coincheck will become a public company trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker "CNCK," according to CoinGape

Thunder Bridge previously issued a press release announcing the filing of its registration statement with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to merge with Coincheck.

The merger is expected to close in the second or third quarter of 2024, subject to regulatory approval and the satisfaction of customary closing conditions. Following the merger, Coincheck Group B.V. will be renamed Coincheck Group N.V., a holding company incorporated in the Netherlands, and Coincheck will be considered its subsidiary.

Coincheck's listing on Nasdaq signals the company's desire to expand its reach internationally while appealing to the US investor community. The move will not only provide Coincheck with greater global exposure, but also strengthen its position as a key player in the emerging cryptocurrency landscape.

The regulatory environment for cryptocurrencies continues to evolve, and against this backdrop, Coincheck's listing continues the initiative of other cryptocurrency companies to go public. This strategic move reinforces the growing interconnection between traditional financial markets and the cryptocurrency space, facilitating the further integration of digital assets into the mainstream financial system.

The merger between SPAC and Coincheck marks an important moment for the Japanese crypto exchange as it steps onto the global stage, reflecting an ambitious vision to expand beyond the country's borders and appeal to a broader investor base.
